Tonight marks the first on-the-field sign that the Washington Nationals are reviving Major League Baseball in our nation's capital. The off-field maneuvers began last year with the drafting of Stephen Strasburg, and continued last night when they took Bryce Harper first overall. Strasburg will be on a strict pitches/innings count tonight (but it's the Pirates, he should get through six no problem), but Darren Rovell projects a huge financial windfall, for both tonight and the rest of the year, regardless. Suffice to say, if all goes according to plan (and Nats fans better hope that means a few more high draft picks, a la Tampa Bay) baseball will be back in D.C. Think baseball is doing well right now? Wait until there's another eastern seaboard team doing well and a major media market criticizing its every move, and baseball will be real happy then. Also, don't be surprised if ESPN D.C. just so happens to launch around that time as well.
